Maserati is one of the world’s most iconic automotive manufacturers, rich in tradition and sporting successes. It was founded on December 1st, 1914 in Bologna, Italy by Alfieri Maserati as a car engineering workshop called “Officine Alfieri Maserati”. In 1926 Maserati was transformed from a workshop that modified or developed cars built by other companies into a company designing, constructing and selling its own vehicles.
The Maserati brothers adopted the Trident symbol, created by the artist of the family Mario Maserati with inspiration from the famous statue of Neptune in Bologna, as their logo, to express the new company’s identity in a single image. At the end of the 1930s, following its acquisition by Modena-born entrepreneur Adolfo Orsi, Maserati moved to Modena, to its current site on Viale Ciro Menotti.
Maserati has been part of the Fiat Group – now FCA – since 2005 and is a prestigious sports car and luxury sedan brand, exporting to more than 70 countries, where it continues to epitomize Italian sophistication, elegance and style worldwide.
Currently Maserati cars are built at three different locations. The historic plant on Viale Ciro Menotti, Modena, where the GranTurismo and GranCabrio sports cars are built, was initially joined by the Maserati Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant, inaugurated on 30 January 2013 in Grugliasco, which produces the Quattroporte and Ghibli sedans. In February 2016 Mirafiori started production of the Levante SUV, the first car in this segment in the Brand’s more than a hundred years of history; all three production plants are able to guarantee excellent technical and quality standards.
2014 was a special year for Maserati, marking its Centennial and, with 36,500 cars delivered, setting a new sales record. The Geneva Auto Show in the same year saw the presentation of the Alfieri, a Concept Car named after the pre-eminent Maserati brother, the mechanical engineering genius who founded the “Officine Alfieri Maserati” in Bologna in 1914. Designed to point the way to the Brand’s future, it looked ahead to what has now become its new stylistic language.
The current range comprises the GranTurismo sports coupe and its convertible version, the GranCabrio, the sixth generation of the Quattroporte, and the Ghibli executive sports sedan, which marked Maserati’s entrance into the E segment of the market. Last but not least, the range is completed by the new Levante SUV: Design, Exclusivity and Performance are the key words for describing this new Maserati, distinctively Italian in style, with breathtaking lines and some of the Brand’s iconic design features.
The flagship Quattroporte and the Ghibli sports sedan are characterized by 3 litre V6 Twin-Turbo engines and rear-wheel drive, with power outputs ranging from 330 to 410 hp. There is also a Q4 all-wheel drive version as well as the 3 litre V6 Turbo Diesel delivering up to 275 hp, while the Quattroporte is also available with the massive 530 hp V8 Twin-Turbo.
The Levante is fitted with a 3 litre V6 Twin-Turbo petrol engine with power outputs of 350 and 430 hp, and a 275 hp 3 litre V6 Turbo diesel. All power units are combined with the “Q4” intelligent all-wheel drive system and electronic shocks with air-springs with several height settings.
The engines of the sports car range are 4.2 or 4.7 litre naturally aspirated V8 units with power outputs from 405 to 460 hp, offering all the distinctive luxury of Maserati GT cars, to assure passengers of a sporty ride in elegance and comfort.
The main events of 2016 were the launch of the Levante at the Geneva Auto Show and the restyling of the Quattroporte, introducing a new product strategy intended to offer a wider, more specific choice through two exclusive versions that highlight the fundamentals of the Brand’s genetic make-up: the GranLusso and the GranSport, available as additional variations for the whole Quattroporte range.
The two new versions are immediately recognizable thanks to their strongly characterized exterior design and unique interiors, conceived to meet the needs of customers seeking a differentiated, exclusive product in the executive sedan segment.
With the range-completing Levante SUV, alongside the new Quattroporte, the Ghibli, the GranTurismo and the GranCabrio, Maserati now covers every sector of the global luxury car market.
